Ian Murray Henderson started his career as a watch department clerk at Birks Jewellers in London, Ontario. For the next number of years, Ian worked under various jewellery supervisors and gemmologists at a number of Birks' stores in cities across Canada. This invaluable jewellery experience was augmented by mentors like the late Stan Nelson of Edmonton Alberta, and Brook Ellis (former Vice President of the Gemological Institute of America) who taught passion, commitment, ethics, customer service and strong work habits.
Ian's hard work and pursuit of a jewellery and gemmology career led to the purchase of a Windsor jewellery store from the estate of the late Pearce Lettner in 1977. Today, The Gold Shop has grown to provide quality services and a high-end collection of specialty vintage pieces from a variety of areas.
"Today I still vigorously pursue my avocation/job in jewellery and gemmology. I am active as an alumni and member with two great professional organizations, the GIA (Gemologist Institute of America) and Gem-A (The Gemmological Association of Great Britain)."
